At the end of November, St Antony’s carried out a short Parish Safety & Security Survey to better understand how parishioners feel in and around the church, particularly after dark. The survey was designed to inform practical improvements (such as lighting and CCTV) and to provide supporting evidence for ‘the Home Office Places of Worship Protective Security Scheme’.
A total of 237 parishioners responded, providing a strong evidence base for understanding current concerns and priorities. While many respondents said they generally feel safe, the findings also highlight shared concerns about night-time conditions, especially around lighting and confidence when walking alone. A number of parishioners also noted that these concerns can affect attendance at evening Mass or activities.
The parish submitted an application to the Home Office scheme on 8 December, supported by the survey findings and related evidence.
A short visual summary of the key findings is shared on this post. The full survey report is available to download for anyone who would like read more about the themed comments and recommendations.
