The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic organisation of Catholics who, with the approval of the Church and under the powerful patronage of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of All Graces, seek to serve both the Church and their neighbour through voluntary service.

The first meeting of the Legion took place on 7 September 1921 at Myra House, Francis Street, Dublin, Ireland. What began as a small gathering of committed laypeople would go on to have a profound and lasting impact on the mission of the Catholic Church.

Over the years, the Legion of Mary has offered millions of lay Catholics a structured way to live out their baptismal call through prayer, evangelisation, and works of charity. Countless individuals, both within and beyond the Church, have been touched by the love and service of legionary members.

With the support of Popes, bishops, priests, religious, and the faithful across generations, the Legion has, by God’s grace, grown into a worldwide apostolate active in over 170 countries, with several million members. The mission of the Legion continues today, humbly and faithfully, under the guidance of Mary, for the glory of God and the good of souls.
