To request the anointing of the sick, please contact the parish office by email or by phone, or speak to the parish priest after Mass.

The Anointing of the Sick is one of the sacraments of healing, along with Reconciliation. It is a powerful gift of God’s mercy, given to strengthen, comfort, and heal those who are suffering from serious illness, the frailty of old age, or the danger of death.

This sacrament is not only for the moment of death; it is meant for anyone who is seriously ill in body, mind, or spirit. It can be received more than once if the person’s condition worsens or if a new serious illness arises. It is a sacrament of hope and peace, not fear.

As the Letter of James says:

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the presbyters of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up(James 5:14–15).

In the sacrament, the priest anoints the person on the forehead and hands with blessed oil, praying for healing and strength. The effects of the sacrament include:

  • The forgiveness of sins (if the person is unable to go to Confession)

  • The grace to face suffering with peace and courage

  • Sometimes physical healing, if it is God’s will

  • Union with the suffering of Christ, who brings meaning even to pain

  • Preparation for the final journey, for those nearing death

Far from being something grim, Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of consolation. It reminds the sick person that they are not alone, that Christ is near, and that His Church is praying with and for them.
